Sonya Curry Says “I Do” Again and Gives God the Glory

Sonya Curry is a newlywed. The mother of Steph, Seth and Sydel Curry revealed on Instagram on October 8 that she has remarried, sharing photos from a wedding that, according to the New York Post, took place this summer at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Arizona. At 60, she is stepping into a new chapter five years after she and Dell Curry announced the end of their marriage.

Our union is a testament to the fact that God has seen every tear I’ve cried and answered every prayer that I had regarding the type of man that would be a perfect help mate for me.- Sonya Curry

What moved me most was how she told it. The Fierce Love author opened her post with scripture. “As I reflect on the past 7 years, I realize I have experienced every season mentioned in Ecclesiastes 3, particularity vs 4,” she wrote. That is the verse about a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, and she has lived both sides of it. “A year ago my mom passed unexpectedly, while simultaneously the most amazing man came into my life!” she shared. Months later, she said, she was blessed to become his wife. She also wrote that God “has seen every tear I’ve cried and answered every prayer.” Grief and new love arriving in the same season is something only God can hold together.

Sonya has kept her husband’s name private, and I am going to respect that. Fans in her comments have their theories, but this is her story to tell when she is ready. What she did share was a simple encouragement for anybody still waiting: it is “never too late” to hope for what you want.

Now let’s talk about that dress. Sonya wore a white Pnina Tornai gown from Kleinfeld Bridal with gold floral detailing, finished with diamonds from Iza. It was elegant without trying too hard, and white with touches of gold will always get my vote. Planner Kristi Lee pulled the whole celebration together in just nine weeks, with white roses and candlelight setting the mood. There was even a roller-skating performance by the Zoni Girls and fireworks to close out the night.

The family showed up for her. Photos from the reception show Steph cheering on his oldest daughter, Riley, on the dance floor, and Ayesha joined in the fun. Seth and his wife, Callie, were there too. Whatever the last few years held, seeing her children and grandchildren celebrating her says a lot about the mother she has been.

Congratulations, Sonya. Your new season is here, and we are cheering for you.

“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”

Ecclesiastes 3:4 (KJV)
